Why Me?

There are times in life when we go through very difficult trials that lead us to ask these questions: Why me? Why are these things happening to me? When desperation sets in, we always try to find a “why,” and this, strange as it may seem, is normal. I say normal because, in our desperation, we are simply trying to find a way out of the problem.

You know… many of us Christians have faced the same dilemma and asked ourselves the same questions: Why, if I am a daughter of God and follow His principles? I’ll tell you something that may seem a little strange. God does allow adverse circumstances to come into our lives; and do you know why? Because He loves us and has a perfect plan for you and me. God does not see us as we are, but as what we can become. He wants to shape us into the beings He has predestined us to be.

Sometimes we are so out of touch with God and so far from Him that He has to allow difficult trials to turn our gaze back toward Him. We often mistakenly think that, because we are Christians, everything must turn out the way we want.

Some say that all it takes is a prayer and the problem is solved, the trial goes away, and everything returns to normal. So when that does not happen, they feel troubled, and even their faith begins to waver: Could it be that God does not hear my prayers? Could it be that I am not right before Him? Let me tell you that I do not think it is either one or the other. As children of God, we must be taught by Him, and often through difficult situations. What we must always keep in mind is what He tells us in Romans 8:28: “…For those who love God, ALL things work together for good,” even if it does not seem so at the time.

Prayer: Father, teach us to be grateful for everything and to understand that You are always in control. In Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
