Psalms 40:1 • John 5:7
The seatbelt sign is off, the cabin is warm We’re floating above the clouds, far from the storm I order a coffee, I adjust my seat While the miles below us just repeat and repeat Circling the city, delaying the start A dangerous numbness creeps into my heart Just sipping and drifting, no end in sight Lost in the loop of an endless flight
Round and round in a holding pattern Watching the hours and the seasons turn Just an Oompah, Pah, in a circle grind Leaving the purpose far behind But the Pilot hasn’t lost the runway lights We weren't made for these aimless heights Wake up sleeper, put the coffee down We are meant to touch the ground
Like the man by the pool, paralyzed in the sun Thinking his race was already run Thirty-eight years on a dusty floor Resigned that he couldn't expect anymore "I have no one to help me," he whispered in fear Watching the water, year after year Whether stuck in the mud or stuck in the sky We wait for a Savior to hear our cry
(Tempo increases slightly, accordion swells) But biblical waiting is not falling asleep It’s the muscle required for the climb so steep It’s checking the window, it’s watching the gauge It’s getting ready to turn the page! The landing gear is going down The tires are reaching for the town!
I waited patiently, I waited long And He put in my mouth a brand new song No more circling, the drift is done The new adventure has just begun He inclined unto me He heard my cry (Fade out on a final, resolved major chord) Goodbye, holding pattern. Goodbye.
